Van Houtte Coffee has been a master of coffee for over 100 years. Albert-Louis Van Houtte, a French immigrant, opened his first grocery store in Montreal in 1919 and soon concentrated on his one true passion: coffee. Maison A.L. Van Houtte® quickly carved out a reputation for premium quality products. Yet as a bean lover, Albert-Louis is not satisfied. The European coffee taste he loved so much back home is impossible to find; which is why he decided to buy a roaster and start roasting his own coffee at the back of his shop. This marks the beginnings of the House Blend, which hasn’t changed since. Van Houtte Coffee is now Canada wide and it is hard to go a day without seeing one of their delivery trucks servicing every major centre across the country.
Their distribution centre in Calgary wanted to transform two warehouse doors into a dock level loading points for their delivery trucks. They had an existing concrete ground to dock ramp, but they wanted to add the ability to a second and third door. With need to support pedestrian traffic including staff performing loading duties as well as drivers exiting their vehicles. With pedestrian traffic they also needed safe ground to platform access with an area protected from the vehicles using the ramp and platform. With the extreme climate in Calgary they also needed a durable finish that would look good for many tough winter and summer seasons. Together with Van Houtte Coffee, Nation Ramps designed a unit that met all of their demands to win the contract. Once the contract was awarded the ramp needed to be designed, manufactured, delivered and installed.
The solution was two custom Nation Ramps ground to dock ramps, combined with a level platforms and stairways that included a protected walkway. Having worked with customers like Stanley Access Technology, FedEx, Walmart and Home Depot, we understood the required deliverables.
Prior to beginning the manufacturing process, our engineering team produced drawings for discussion and approval. Once Van Houtte management were satisfied and signed off on the design, we engineered, manufactured, delivered and installed the custom ramp, platform and stairway in their Calgary location within the required delivery timeframe.

With 30,000 lbs. weight capacity, 120” wide and 26.5’ long ramps, connected to 120” wide and 20’ long platforms. Accessorized with stairs, walkways and handrails for driver and pedestrian traffic. Designed for Van Houtte delivery trucks loading at Dock level. Able to handle the wear and tear of continual truck traffic, offering years of service, while still looking like the day it was installed.
